Sheep & Goat Pox (S & G Pox) Overview
Sheep & Goat Pox (S & G Pox) is a viral disease caused by the poxvirus that primarily affects sheep and goats. It results in severe pock lesions on the body, primarily around the udder, head, neck, and other non-hairy parts.
Species Affected
- Sheep and goats are the most affected animals.
Clinical Signs
- Respiratory distress.
- Pock lesions on non-hairy parts of the body such as the teat, udder, scrotum, head, neck, ear, perineum, inner thighs, and under the tail.
Preventive Measures
- Vaccination of susceptible animals above 3 months old.
- Symptomatic treatment of affected animals.
- Restriction on animal movement.
- Strict biosecurity measures and proper disposal of carcasses.
